Places to Visit In The Lake District
Explore the beautiful English Lake District
The Grange Hotel is ideally located for exploring the central and southern Lake District.
Situated at the southern fringe of the National Park, Grange-over-Sands is an idyllic little coastal town, reclining on the gentle, south-facing slopes of Morecambe Bay. The town itself offers so many things to see and do, with a mile-long promenade, myriad little shops, tea-rooms and ornamental gardens with a duckpond.
Nearby Cartmel, home of the world-famous sticky toffee pudding, is well worth a visit, boasting an ancient priory, interesting shops and cosy pubs. Sizergh Castle, Holker Hall and Levens Hall are wonderful stately homes all within eight miles of the Grange Hotel. With beautiful award-winning gardens and a wealth of activities, they provide an excellent day out for the whole family.
For those with children, the Beatrix Potter Experience in Bowness is a treat, as well as the Dalton Wildlife Park and the Wildlife Oasis in Carnforth. For those with more energy, there are tree-top rope courses in Grizedale Forest and Brockhole.
Art lovers should explore the Abbot Hall gallery in Kendal; Blackwell one of Britain’s finest Arts and Crafts houses, in nearby Bowness; or Brantwood, John Ruskin’s former home overlooking Coniston, now a historic house and museum for the arts.
And, of course, the Grange Hotel is also your ideal base for exploring the breathtaking majesty of the fells, tarns and lakes of the National Park itself. If you want to roam away from the beaten track for the day, pre-order your packed lunch at Reception by 10pm the previous evening, and we`ll send you off with something delicious to keep you going until you return to the hotel for dinner!
